Welcome from the Alumni Association President

Dear Fellow Hoyas,

Despite the challenges we face due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the most recent incidents of systemic racism that continue to plague our country, I am honored to begin my term as President of the Georgetown University Alumni Association (GUAA) and to navigate thoughtfully these challenges to the best of my ability. With an eye toward our mission statement, I am committed to advancing GUAA’s mission of generating support for our Alma Mater and fostering a lifelong connection among the global Georgetown community. Especially in these times, I promise to do so with a keen emphasis on three E’s: Empathy, Energy and Enthusiasm.

I have a deep and long-standing connection to Georgetown. As a native of Jersey City, NJ and graduate of St. Peter’s Prep, I was the first person in my family to graduate from college. My wife Deanne (C’89) and I met as undergrads, married on campus in the winter of 1993 (while I was in between semesters at Georgetown Law), and raised our three daughters to be diehard Hoya fans. Our oldest, Sophia, is a rising senior in the College. While Francesca heads to the College of the Holy Cross to join the women’s soccer team this fall, Julianna continues her high school studies as an only child for the first time.

Throughout our parenting lives, Deanne and I have stressed to our girls the belief that they should at least in part pursue a life in accordance with the Jesuit ideal of being women for others. I too have tried to live my life by this mantra and plan to lead with it in mind every day. With a committed Executive Committee in place and many others who have volunteered to lead in big and small ways, I hope to provide a guiding hand and to build on the work of my predecessors on a number of fronts, including a laser focus on diversity, inclusion and equity, improved communications with each other and our constituency and partners, and continued incubation of cutting edge ideas for connections sought by our Alumni all over the World.

The beginning of my term will focus on reviewing and affirming the five key strategic priorities of the GUAA Strategic Plan:

  • Diversity
Align GUAA programs and resources to reflect alumni diversity and create a more inclusive community.
  • Strengthening Engagement
Strengthen Georgetown’s global mission by engaging alumni in meaningful programs.
  • Communications
Enhance GUAA communications with alumni and the University.
  • Metrics
Create a culture of measurement and accountability.
  • Governance
    Maintain efficient and sustainable governance.

It is my sincere hope that we connect better over the next two years and into the future. As your GUAA President, my door is always open to all of you and your ideas with the goals of generating goodwill and support of our Alma Mater and making the GUAA an exemplar of alumni associations generally and specifically in the areas of diversity, inclusion and equity.

I look forward to getting started.

Hoya Saxa,

Frank Ciatto (B’88, L’94)
President, GUAA
