BOG Committees

The Board of Governors’ Committees are actively engaged in developing and promoting new programs for Georgetown alumni to connect with each other and with Georgetown. The Committees meet in person at each Leadership Weekend and periodically throughout the year. We invite you to read about each of the Committees and to contact the Committee Chairs with thoughts, ideas and recommendations.

Alumni Clubs Committee

Committee Description

The Alumni Club Committee provides the Association guidance on the management and best practices for Georgetown Alumni Clubs, including managing Alumni Club charters and other governance issues. Of particular focus to the Committee’s work are the more than 60 Alumni Clubs worldwide which offer various programming, events and engagement opportunities for alumni. The Committee also recognizes outstanding Alumni Clubs with an annual awards program that recognizes volunteer leadership and excellence in programming. Working with other Association committees, the Alumni Clubs Committee works to develop enhanced engagement opportunities for all Georgetown alumni.

Committee Description

The primary responsibility of the Audit and Finance Committee is to oversee the financial matters of the Georgetown University Alumni Association (GUAA) and to interface with GUAA’s independent certified public account. The work of the committee is developed through the work of its three subcommittees: (a) Audit and Budget, (b)Investments and (c) Revenue and Royalty.

Committee Description

Made up of governors and senators, the Awards Committee selects the winners of the Timothy S. Healy, S.J., John Carroll, Patrick Healy, Apollonian, Founders, William Gaston, 1820, Reed, Faculty, and William G. Reynolds Young Alumni Awards. The winners are selected from nominations submitted by alumni, members of the Georgetown community, and university staff. The awards are given to alumni and patrons of the university in recognition of their outstanding volunteer service and contributions to the university and/or the Alumni Association.

Committee Description

This committee provides a group of Governors, Senators, and Staff leaders from multiple campuses and schools. We plan to exchange ideas amongst schools to identify opportunities to increase visibility and involvement of alumni across the University Community.

Career Services Committee

Committee Description

The Career Services committee supports the GUAA Alumni Career Services team in their provision of lifelong career development and networking opportunities for Georgetown alumni, wherever they are on their career path, regardless of class year and degree granted. This includes support of resources and services like the Webinar Program, Coaching Partnership Program, Alumni Career Network, among others. The Career Services Committee also provides support for student-alumni connections and networking via the Hoya Gateway program. The committee also participates in the ongoing development of GUAA Alliance strategy, evaluates charter applications for new alliances seeking charter by GUAA and may recommend formal chartering to the Full Board of Governors. Additionally, the committee provides oversight, and support to GUAA-chartered alliances including the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance.

Committee Description

The mission of the Class Advancement Committee is to support class leaders, across all three campuses, in their roles in communications, events, reunion and fundraising and to assist in recruiting, training and providing program support for alumni class leaders.There is a strong level of support for signature events such as Reunion and Homecoming. Working with the Class Advancement staff, the committee assists in recruiting, training, and providing program support for alumni class leaders.

Committee Description

The Communications Committee provides the Association guidance on the functional and strategic deployment of communications messaging and tools for the Association’s and the University’s missions. Of particular focus to the Committee’s work is social media, and related uses of technology for communications purposes. The Committee also considers the effective means of bridging the efforts of other Association committees to further their objectives by advising on communications plans to reach alumni.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee

Committee Description

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee works to ensure that the Board is representative of the diverse alumni body which the GUAA serves and supports DE&I programming for Board leadership weekends and across all committees.

Committee Description

The Georgetown University Alumni Association Executive Committee is composed of the President; the President-Elect; the Executive Director; the Treasurer; the Parliamentarian; the Chairs of Committees of the Association; the Chair of the Law School Alumni Board; the Chair of the Medical School Alumni Board. The Executive Committee meets regularly throughout the year. It is the policy-making committee of the Board and has the authority to exercise all powers of the Board of Governors in the management of the affairs of the Alumni Association when the Board is not in session. The President of the Alumni Association chairs this committee.

Committee Description

The Nominations Committee of the Georgetown University Alumni Association is responsible for selecting candidates for election to the Board of Governors and the Officers of the Alumni Association.

Committee Description

The Philanthropy Committee works to galvanize the Board of Governors, as well as the greater alumni community, to offer meaningful support to Georgetown in a strategic, focused, and impactful way. This objective is in addition to the committee’s work to support Georgetown’s strategic priorities through its long term campaigns as well as targeted short-term giving appeals, as well as to promote GUAA philanthropy within the board.

Loyalty Society

The Georgetown University Loyalty Society was one of the very first in the country, created in 2009 with an Innovation Grant from the Alumni Association, and is now a routinely bench-marked and often duplicated best practice by many other institutions. It is best in class retention tool for our donors, last year helping us achieve a historic 85% retention rate with our loyal donors vs a 73% retention rate overall. Learn more about Loyalty Society benefits.
