Watch Now!

In this episode of the GEMA Talks series “The Write Stuff,” poet and children’s book author Hollis Kurman shares her winding road to calling herself a writer, from decades of fitting poetry into the margins of an international consulting career, to a traumatic brain injury that forced her to finally put her creative life first.

Hollis discusses the benefits and challenges of writing across genres, how she built a thriving literary salon community in Amsterdam, and why thinking about what your work can do for others is the key to sustaining a writing life for the long haul. Her advice for aspiring writers: don’t give up — being a writer is a marathon, not a sprint.
