Sarah Schwimmer is the co-CEO and head of external affairs at B Lab, the global nonprofit network behind the B Corp certification that works to transform our economy so that it benefits people, communities, and our planet. To do this, B Lab leverages its B Corp certification, its community of nearly 10,000 businesses and over 1 million workers, its global standards for good business, and a mix of other tools to demonstrate how and why businesses must transition away from shareholder primary and toward stakeholder governance. 

Sarah has spent much of her career in purpose-driven work, and has worked around the world in various capacities. Before joining B Lab, she led the business development team at Living Goods, a Skoll and Audacious Project awardee focused on community health in Sub-Saharan Africa. Previously, she served at the United Nations Foundation, where she oversaw the institution’s engagement with bilateral and multilateral agencies and built new public-private partnerships. Sarah has also served at Rare, World Wildlife Fund, the National Park Service, and Innovations for Poverty Action. She has lived and worked in Indonesia, Ghana, Kenya, the Philippines, Micronesia, and the United States. She is experienced in designing, implementing, and managing resource development strategies with bilateral and multilateral agencies, nonprofit organizations, philanthropic and corporate foundations, and high net worth individuals. She is most energized when collaborating with people and companies that have a bias toward action and are willing to take trust-based risks. 

Sarah holds a M.P.A. in International Policy and Management from New York University and a B.A. in Journalism from Indiana University. She is based in Washington, DC and is an avid reader, a baseball fan (go Cubs and Nationals!), and an aspiring vegetable gardener.
