Title:GEMA Alumni Spotlight – Dan Rossomondo (SFS’95), VP of Global Marketing Partnerships at NBA

As Vice President for Global Marketing Partnerships at the NBA, Dan Rossomondo (F ’95) oversees global media sales, supervises international business development working with the NBA’s offices around the globe, and directs sales relationships with NBA media licensees Turner Sports and ESPN.

What was your first “big break”? Or, what is the most significant experience you have had that has made your success possible?

My first job out of college at Madison Square Garden exposed me to the business side of sports and I have been a part of it ever since

What is the most challenging part of your job? What is the most rewarding part?

The most challenging part is the travel. I enjoy it, but I also is grueling. Couple that with the demands of the job that exist in the office while I am away and it becomes a delicate balancing act What is a current project you are working on that you are excited about? The NBA’s partnership with CCTV5 in China.

Are there any ways that you feel Georgetown especially prepared you for your career?

The School of Foreign Service and Georgetown in general forced you to look outside of the US and open your eyes to the rest of the world. It has helped me understand history of the various places the NBA does business.

What is your best advice to those who are starting out in your field?

Learn as much you can about the various aspects of the business. Work hard and rewards will follow.

How is the digital world affecting your industry? How are you approaching this transformational change?

The NBA has an enormous focus on the digital business and we are leaders in the space. It has allowed us to cultivate fans across the globe. We embrace innovation and constantly look at ways to use digital media on its own, but also to support other aspects of our business.
