Mark Bulik is a senior editor at The New York Times, in charge of digital headlines. A 1980 graduate of the School of Foreign Service, he’s worked as a reporter, columnist, and editor for 36 years, and has been with The Times since 1997. For several years he supervised the Sunday front page, and later ran the home page of the web site. He occasionally contributes history pieces to The Times, and is the author of “The Sons of Molly Maguire: The Irish Roots of America’s First Labor War.”

Sarah Mimms is a deputy editor for BuzzFeed News and is based in Washington, D.C., where she helps lead a team covering Congress, The White House, and basically all things politics. She’s also covered Congress for VICE News, National Journal, and National Journal Hotline. Sarah has worked as a political journalist since graduating from Georgetown. Sarah graduated from the College in 2010.

Russell Adams has been a reporter and editor at The Wall Street Journal since 2005. He started as a sports reporter for Weekend Journal and later spent four years covering the newspaper and magazine industries. In 2012, he made the transition to editing, and since then, he’s overseen coverage in various areas including, Money & Investing, Greater New York and, most recently, national news. Russell studied Spanish at Georgetown and graduated in 1998.

Sanford J. Ungar, president emeritus of Goucher College, is director of the Free Speech Project at Georgetown University. He has been director of the Voice of America and dean of the School of Communication at American University. During his journalism career, he was a staff writer for the Washington Post, Washington editor of The Atlantic, managing editor of Foreign Policy magazine, and co-host of “All Things Considered” on NPR. He is the author or editor of six nonfiction books, including The Papers & The Papers: An Account of the Legal and Political Battle over the Pentagon Papers, which won the George Polk Award. Ungar earned an AB in Government magna cum laude from Harvard College and a master’s degree in International History from the London School of Economics. He teaches undergraduate seminars on Free Speech at both Georgetown and Harvard.

Hoyas in Letters is an alumni initiative that connects and engages members of the Georgetown community who are passionate about words and the power of writing. Alumnae Allison Gilbert Weintraub (C’92) and Moira Bailey (C’ 80) have organized Hoyas in Letters to reflect the changing landscape of various industries when it comes to the written word – newspapers, magazines, digital and social media, screenwriting, and of course, book publishing.
