Club of Delaware: The epic, historical movie SMYRNA

The epic, historical movie SMYRNA is coming to Wilmington, Delaware on Thursday night December 8th. Join us for this special viewing of this critically acclaimed, award-winning Greek film directed by and starring Mimi Denisi.

It is about one of the greatest humanitarian disasters of the 20th Century: the Turkish burning of the Greek and Armenian neighborhoods of Smyrna, and expulsion of Greeks. An estimated 100,000 people died in the Smyrna Catastrophe. 25,000 homes, shops, businesses and government buildings were destroyed, creating a refugee crisis predominantly towards Greece, through Mytilini to Athens and Thessaloniki, of epic proportions. The 3,000 year Greek presence was erased from the city of Smyrna exactly 100 years ago.

This is a timely topic, given recent world events, about the catastrophic effects of war and ethnic cleansing.

The Georgetown Club of Delaware is in the process of purchasing group discounted tickets for the membership if the interest is great enough. There is only one showing at 7 pm on Dec 8th at Brandywine Regal Cinema in Wilmington, DE. Post movie discussion to follow at the cinema lounge on the ground level.

Tickets will be $14/each. Please email Alexia to reserve your tickets at dralexia@metamorphosismd.com
