What is your favorite Georgetown memory?

Freshman year orientation week was so spectacular. Being in D.C.—a beautiful, important, and compelling place—entirely independent and free from parental discipline and surrounded by so many brilliant peers was beyond energizing.

What is the biggest impact Georgetown has had on your personal or professional life?

I met my husband (Paul Van Houten, C’88, L’92) in undergrad, which determined the rest of my path, both personally and professionally. Paul has been the ultimate partner for me on every front, seeing professional potential in me that I didn’t see in myself and encouraging me to have a career I never thought possible for myself. Now having two sons who are also Hoyas has been such a gift. Both have been anchored back on campus for the past five or so years, and now I share such a meaningful, common experience with them. It makes me so happy that as brothers, their connection accelerated and will guide their relationship moving forward.

What excited you most about leading the Women of Georgetown Initiative and being a part of the inaugural Board?

I went to one of the first Women of Georgetown events and felt so inspired and energized by the portfolio of amazing, accomplished alumnae. It made me so proud to be one of them and left me wanting to expand this magic so as many women as possible could benefit from what I experienced.

What part of the Women of Georgetown mission resonates with you the most?

The focus on creating a platform for bringing together the extraordinary group of women that are Georgetown alumnae to create magic together.

What is the best way women can support each other?

I think the most impactful program could be a networking marketplace where women can easily explore lists of women willing to be mentors, advisors, etc. and set up brief calls to achieve concrete, practical support.
