Title:GEMA Alumni Spotlight – Jennifer Grazier (L’02), Business Affairs Executive, Apple TV

Jennifer Wang Grazier currently works at Apple, where she co-heads Apple TV’s Television Business Affairs and has helped to launch many beloved series on the premium platform, including Severance, Slow Horses, and Silo. In her role, she negotiates rights and talent deals for in-house productions and distribution deals for third-party productions, and oversees productions from development to completion.

What was your first “big break”? Or, what is the most significant experience you have had that has made your success possible?

When I was offered the position of Head of TV Business and Legal Affairs at Legendary Entertainment, I wrestled with self-doubt before finally accepting. That decision marked a major turning point in my career. The role stretched me in ways I did and did not anticipate, and proved to me that I was capable of more than I realized.

What is the most challenging part of your job? What is the most rewarding part?

Successfully balancing competing priorities requires a combination of strategic judgment, analytical rigor, and diplomacy. The most rewarding moments come when negotiations deliver solutions that satisfy all parties. At the end of the day, everyone has a client to serve, and when compromise and progress align, everyone wins.

What is something current you are working on that you are excited about?

I am excited to work on all of our projects, which continually demand the highest levels of creativity and excellence—brought to life by outstanding writers, producers, directors, and actors.

Are there any ways that you feel Georgetown especially prepared you for your career?

Georgetown University Law Center (GULC) taught me how to be a thoughtful negotiator—starting with the simple but powerful idea of knowing your audience. Whether you’re making a case, responding to feedback, or just explaining your perspective, it’s essential to understand who you’re talking to and what matters to them. When you tailor your approach to the person across the table, rather than defaulting to a one-size-fits-all answer, the conversation becomes more productive—and often, far more successful.

What is your best advice to those who are starting out in your field?

I might be the wrong person to ask, because when I was in law school, I didn’t even know the job I’m in now existed. But I firmly believe no matter where your path begins, the fundamentals are what truly matter. I learned the fundamentals at my law firm jobs; the long nights, the meticulous attention to detail, and the constant expectation of professionalism. Those jobs taught me discipline and resilience. I also believe that much of life is relative—the harder things were early on, the more I appreciated the moments that came after.

For those beginning a career in Entertainment Business Affairs, a path distinct from traditional legal work, the key is to learn from the people around you and to approach every opportunity with determination and the grit to succeed.

Best Business Advice Received:

“Be kind to yourself.”

While not always the case, I am so grateful to say that this has not been hard for me recently. We MUST always give ourselves grace. Life is challenging. We need to remember that – not be too hard on ourselves when life is hard on us – and reach out when we are not in our best moments.

Trait You Most Admire in People:

Empathy. When you approach others with genuine understanding, you create stronger connections—with co-workers, bosses, clients, and counterparties alike. Those connections form the foundations of lasting success. Emotional intelligence is every bit as vital as intellect or expertise.

Favorite App, Website, Podcast or Social Platform (other than related to your own company):

If I’m going to be totally honest…Instagram. Oh yes, Apple TV too!!!

Favorite Georgetown Professor:

Prof. David Cole, Hon. George J. Mitchell Professor in Law and Public Policy.

Favorite Georgetown Restaurant or Bar:

Not in Georgetown, but a favorite Thursday night hang of GULC students – Adam’s Mill Bar and Grill in Adams Morgan. It was comforting to know we could see some of the same people at the same place listening to the same music from our classmates every Thursday night.

Favorite Georgetown Memory:

When I was asked by some in the APALSA group during my 1L year to stop studying and go out with them for the night.

The start of 1L was not easy for me – I turned 21 in my first week of law school and felt completely out of place and had “impostor syndrome” even though I don’t think that term existed then. I eventually settled in and figured it out with the help of so many strangers who are now my closest friends. And I will see them next week as I write this when I run the NY Marathon! All to say…all is great, and so much of it is because of Georgetown.
