The Legacy of the Georgetown University School of Dentistry

The Georgetown University School of Dentistry (1901-1990) was the proud home to many of Georgetown’s sons and daughters, providing unparalleled education in the field of dentistry rooted in cura personalis, the Jesuit value of care for the whole person. The dedication of dental faculty and its students to the Georgetown ideals of service to all those in need reverberate through the halls and classrooms of the Medical Dental Building today. Join us in celebrating 89 years of academic excellence in dental education and artistry, in partnership with the Booth Family Center for Special Collections at Lauinger Library, the Dental Alumni Board, and the GUAA.

Celebrating the School of Dentistry Legacy

2025 marks 35 years since the last class graduated from the School of Dentistry. We choose to celebrate 89 years of academic excellence in dental education and the legacy that School of Dentistry faculty and students have left to Georgetown University. We are calling on all dental alumni to share in your own words, the impact that the School of Dentistry has made in your life.

Consider what your Georgetown education means to you, favorite memory from the Hilltop or beloved tradition. The Dental Alumni Board will be working on a project to compile stories and quotes, which you will hear more about in the coming months.

“What resonates most positively for me are the friendships that were wrought with many classmates that still exist to this day . We shared many hours in the classroom, clinic , or anywhere on campus back then . The atmosphere at Georgetown University, the neighborhood and the great city of Washington D.C were an exciting and appealing backdrop during the four years I was there , and each time I return it brings back great memories.”

“The GUSD was a special place. It created a family of dentists that have a lifelong bond. Not only to your own class, but the entire dental alumni population. GUSD made great clinical and ethical dentists. Just as important, many had and continue to have had a positive impact in dentistry and the community. The infamous FAC (friday afternoon club) also was unique to the school- it integrated the faculty and students in a way that created mutual admiration and respect in a social environment. I would venture to say that our 4 years at Georgetown on Reservoir Rd is etched as a lifelong memory.”
