Walk, run, bike, swim, or row – celebrate the class of 2006 by challenging yourself to 6 kilometers of your favorite outdoor (or indoor!) activity. Take a photo and use the hashtag #6for06Hoyas to share your accomplishment. This activity will last all week, so get in your 6K whenever you can!

Mindfulness and Movement with Farrah Farley (‘06)

Join fellow Hoyas and their families Sunday, June 2 at 3:00 PM EST for a peaceful mindfulness and movement session. Through hatha yoga asana poses, pranayama or breathing techniques, and a healing sound meditation, you will feel calm and rejuvenated for the week ahead. Farrah Farley (F’06) registered with RYT Yoga Alliance in 2016. She is available to teach with her 200 hour certification in Vinyasa Yoga to private clients, corporate wellness and in studios. She completed her Registered Children’s Yoga Teaching 95 hour certification in 2019 and has since taught in classrooms and virtually for children with neurodiverse abilities.

Join Dr. Roberta Waite, dean of Georgetown University School of Nursing, and the class of 2006 for a conversation on health equity.

Dr. Roberta Waite, dean of Georgetown University’s School of Nursing, is a highly regarded nurse leader whose career fuses education, practice, research, and community through innovative and transformative strategies. She has committed the last 35 years of her nursing career to dismantling health care inequities with special emphasis on community-centered work. Having served on the Governor’s Think Tank to develop guidelines for Trauma-Informed Care in Pennsylvania, as content expert for the American Nurses’ Association (ANA) National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing, as the ANA representative on the National Quality Forum Measure Applications Partnership Health Equity Advisory Group, and on Trinity Health’s corporate health system board, she has continuously aligned her efforts with racial and social justice. In 2022, her commitment was recognized with a Modern Healthcare’s Excellence in Governance award for her work on the corporate health system board with improvements in clinical quality, safety, and health equity, as well as her leadership in the expansion of community health and well-being programs, and leading community outreach programs throughout the pandemic. Cuddle up with your family and enjoy a virtual story time with 2006 Hoya, Gabriella Aldeman. Gabriella Aldeman is a Panamanian American author. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University (COL ‘05) and a master’s degree from The College of William and Mary. Her books include Paula’s Patches and Squawk of Spanish. Gaby lives in Fairfax, VA with her husband and two children. You can purchase Gabriella’s books here. 

Native of Panama City, Panama, Gabriella moved to the United States to pursue an undergraduate degree at Georgetown University (Go Hoyas!) and have stayed in the Washington, DC area ever since. She now lives in Fairfax, VA with her husband, daughter, and son. She visits Panama regularly and embraces the constant transition between her two beautiful languages.

“Georgetown’s Influence on the Jesuit College Network” with Dr. Michael T. Rizzi (‘04)

Join your fellow Hoyas as we explore the fascinating story of how the Jesuits built one of the largest and most successful college networks in the country, and how Georgetown made that growth possible. Learn how Georgetown faculty and alumni founded many great Jesuit schools like Boston College and Holy Cross; how the oldest colleges in California, Missouri, Alabama, and elsewhere have Georgetown ties; and how some Jesuit colleges far from DC awarded degrees in Georgetown’s name. Learn why, to this day, many Jesuit schools still use blue and gray as their school colors and use the word “Hoya” in their fight songs.

Dr. Michael Rizzi (SFS’04) holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, a master’s degree in political science from the University of Pittsburgh, and a doctor of education from the University of Pittsburgh. He is the author of numerous articles on the history and mission of colleges and universities and on international relations. His work has appeared in America magazine, the Journal of Catholic Higher Education, the Newman Studies Journal, the Journal of Catholic Education, American Catholic Studies, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and elsewhere, and his research has been cited in Supreme Court documents as well as academic journals. He has more than seventeen years of experience in higher education management and teaching, and is currently Director of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He has given invited lectures at Georgetown University, Boston College, Creighton University, Santa Clara University, the University of San Francisco, Saint Joseph’s University, the University of Scranton, and elsewhere. Join classmates Nayeema Raza (SFS’06) and Jory Caulkins (COL’06) for a fireside chat about podcasting. Tune in for a behind- the- scenes glimpse at how they each got involved in this platform, what it takes to put together a successful episode and series and much much more! Moderated by Charlie Caulkins (COL’06).

Nayeema Raza (SFS ‘06) is a journalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine and the Tribeca Film Festival. She is launching and will be co-hosting a new podcast starting May 31 following 3+ years of partnering with Kara Swisher (SFS ‘84) as the on-air Executive Producer of the Vox Media podcast “On with Kara Swisher” and the Senior Editor of The New York Times podcast “Sway.” Previously, Nayeema was a Senior Producer in the Opinion Video section of The Times, where she remains a contributing producer. Nayeema came into podcasting and journalism with a background in documentary filmmaking with projects including the musical documentary “Sublime” and the 10-episode CBS All Access documentary series “That Animal Rescue Show.” She spent the first five years of her career in international development consulting, advising foreign governments on economic reforms and market-based solutions to poverty. Nayeema holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a BSFS from the Georgetown School of Foreign Service. She grew up in Asia and Africa and, after living in a dozen cities and four continents since Georgetown, is finally rooted in New York City. Jory Caulkins (COL ’06) is the host of Built to Outlast. He is an experienced investor, entrepreneur, and operator. He is the founder and CEO of Enduring Companies, a holding company focused on building for the long term. Prior to Enduring he was the Founding Chairman of Project Canary (fka IES) a leading provider of data and SaaS solutions to the energy industry. Earlier in his career Jory worked at Bain Capital and Morgan Stanley, worked at a hedge fund, and started and sold a small technology business. He earned a BS from Georgetown in 2006 and an MBA from Stanford in 2014. He lives with his wife and their three children in Texas, is an avid fly-fisherman, and an aspiring but unaccomplished chef.

Join Professor Anthony Arend, Professor of Government and Foreign Service and Chair of the Department of Government, as he shares more on “The Future of the International System” and helps us close out an exciting week celebrating the class of 2006!

Anthony Clark Arend is Professor of Government and Foreign Service and Chair of the Department of Government . He served as Senior Associate Dean for Graduate and Faculty Affairs (later Vice Dean) in the Walsh School of Foreign Service from August 2015 until July 2018. He served as Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program from 2008-2017. His research and teaching is in the fields of international law, national security law, international legal theory, and human rights. He has published seven books, including Legal Rules and International Society, International Law and the Use of Force: Beyond the UN Charter Paradigm (co-authored), and Human Dignity and the Future of Global Institutions (co-edited). With Professor Christopher C. Joyner, he founded the Institute for International Law & Politics at Georgetown and served as co-director of the Institute from 2003-2008. His is a University Affiliate at the Center for National Security and the Law at the Georgetown University Law Center and has also served as an adjunct professor of law. He serves as a Faculty Liaison to the Georgetown Institute for Politics and Public Service. He has served as Chair of the Main Campus Executive Faculty and Vice President of the Faculty Senate for the Main Campus. Prior to coming to Georgetown, he was a Senior Fellow at the Center for National Security Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. He has also served as an Articles Editor for the Virginia Journal of International Law. Dr. Arend is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves as a Senator on the Board of Governors of the Georgetown University Alumni Association. In April 2017, Arend received the John Carroll Award from the Georgetown University Alumni Association. This award ”is conferred upon Georgetown alumni whose achievements and record of service exemplify the ideals and traditions of Georgetown and its founder” and is the highest honor given by the Alumni Association. Dr. Arend received a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Foreign Affairs from the Department of Government and Foreign Affairs of the University of Virginia. He received a B.S.F.S., magna cum laude, from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
