Uphold this Blue and Gray tradition by pitching in with a service project in your community. Service projects are being added weekly, so check back often for a project near you.

Georgetown Club of Los Angeles
LA Hoyas Adopt-A-Beach

Join the Club of Los Angeles as they partner with Heal the Bay for a beach cleanup on Santa Monica State Beach!

  • Age requirement: All ages are welcome! Parents must participate with their children. Minors must have a parent or legal guardian’s signature in order to participate.
  • What to wear: Participants should wear items needed for a safe cleanup like gloves and closed-toed shoes.
  • What to bring: The club will provide plastic gloves, but participants can bring sturdy garden or work gloves from home. Participants should also bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Using reusable items that can be easily washed is encouraged.
  • When you arrive: Park and meet on the beach at The Inkwell Monument.
  • Please note: Before the cleanups, every volunteer must sign a waiver, no exceptions! Volunteers ages 18 and up must sign a waiver to participate. Volunteers ages 17 and under must have a parent or legal guardian sign a waiver for minors to participate. Printable waivers are also available. Make sure to watch the safety video before the cleanup.
  • Join the group for lunch at Cha Cha Chicken after the shift is over!

Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy—Restoration, Planting and Maintenance Event

For this year’s Hoyas Give Baxa, the Georgetown Club of Orange County is partnering with the Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy! Volunteers will help with beach restoration, planting, and maintenance. Restoration will include the removal of non-native plants on the Magnolia Marsh dunes. Planting will include seeds of Spiny Rush (Juncus acutus) in pony packs, separating and transplanting into 4-inch pots, or transplanting into gallon pots. Maintenance will include trash pickup, trimming pathways, and/or staining the observation deck and memorial bench.

  • Age requirement: No age limit, but attendees must stay with their children.
  • What to wear: Pants, closed-toed shoes or boots that can get dirty.
  • What to bring: We encourage you to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle (please avoid disposable plastic bottles), and reusable gardening gloves.
  • When you arrive: Please proceed to the back parking lot to check in and sign waivers.

Fun on the Farm!

The Club of Sacramento is partnering with The Table Farm for this year’s Hoyas Give Baxa. Volunteers will help build the garden’s infrastructure for the new growing season. Tasks may include weeding, harvesting, seeding, planting, etc.

  • Please note: Space is limited to 20 participants, so please register early!
  • Age requirement: Ages 14 and older.
  • What to wear: Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts, as well as closed-toed shoes.
  • What to bring: A pair of gloves (there are some at the farm if needed). You are also encouraged to bring a water bottle.
  • When you arrive: The Farm is located at the back of St. Robert School (in case GPS tries to direct you to the front of the school). There is parking on the street right outside the farm.
  • Please note—there are no restrooms onsite.
  • Join the group for lunch at Selland’s Market-Cafe after the project’s completion.

(Oceanside) Breakwater Way Beach Cleanup

The Georgetown Club of San Diego is partnering with Surfrider San Diego for this year’s Hoyas Give Baxa! Our local beaches are protected by volunteers. We will be taking action to protect the environment by removing trash from our coastline.

  • Age requirement: A separate waiver form needs to be signed for anyone under 18 years of age.
  • What to wear: Participants should wear clothing suitable for a safe cleanup, such as closed-toe shoes.
  • What to bring: All cleanup supplies will be provided; however, we encourage volunteers to bring their own (gloves, trash grabbers, and a reusable bag to collect trash).
  • When you arrive: Please meet us on the sand near Lifeguard Tower 8, which is close to the corner of Breakwater Way and the Strand N. It is recommended that volunteers arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time to find parking in the parking lots on The Strand or on-street.
  • Join the club for a happy hour/lunch after the project’s completion (TBD).

The Club of Colorado is partnering with the Front Range Trails Conservancy for a morning of park cleanup which may include light trail maintenance, a cleanup, and/or invasive weed removal.

  • Age requirement: Volunteers must be 16 years and older. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • What to wear: Please wear comfortable closed-toed shoes, clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, work gloves, sunglasses, and a hat.
  • What to bring: Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, plenty of drinking water, and a sack lunch and snacks. Rain gear and appropriate layers for the forecasted weather is encouraged.
  • When you arrive: Meet and park at the designated location. There will likely be a short hike to the area where the club will be working.

Helping Restore Historic Dumbarton Oaks Park

  • What to bring: Please bring a water bottle.
  • When you arrive: Volunteers will gather at Lovers’ Lane, approximately 200 feet east of R Street and 31st Street NW. It is noted by a green-on-white wooden plaque which reads “Dumbarton Oaks Park, Open Dawn to Dusk.”
  • Please note—Required volunteer waivers for Dumbarton Oaks and the National Parks Service will be to be signed in advance of the project.

  • What to bring: Water, trash bags, sunscreen, and disposable gloves will be provided.
  • When you arrive: Meet under the covered area of the concession stand. Residents or visitors must have a beach parking permit or pay-by-space for beach access parking in the City of Naples. This is enforced year round.

Volunteers will help prepare boxed breakfasts and lunches for malnourished children living in poverty and perform kitchen clean-up. There is no age requirement, so Hoyas of all ages can participate!

  • When you arrive: Go to the rear of the building and enter through the kitchen.

Join the Club of Chicago as they partner with Orphans of the Storm. Orphans of the Storm helps each and every orphaned, abandoned, abused, or neglected dog and cat who reaches their door. The Chicago Hoyas will help with animal caretaking and handling, interacting with the public, keeping the store neat and clean, working on various special tasks (like preparing for upcoming events), and helping with the adoption process.

  • Please note: Space is limited to 20 volunteers, so please register early! Volunteers will need to sign a volunteer waiver before the event.
  • Age requirement: Volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Volunteers ages 13–15 must have a parent or guardian be present with them while they volunteer. Volunteers over 16 years old can volunteer independently but will still need to sign the volunteer waiver.
  • What to wear: Closed-toed shoes and long pants.
  • When you arrive: Park in the mall parking lot by Macy’s. Storefront is on the second floor. A representative from the organization will be meeting the group at 10:30 a.m. to let volunteers into the store.

  • What to wear: Please wear sturdy shoes/boots (waterproof but good for walking is ideal).
  • What to bring: If you have gloves or a trash grabber, please bring them. Gloves and a few grabbers will be available to lend. We also recommend bringing a water bottle.
  • When you arrive: Follow Clipper Rd. to where it ends at the trailhead. A map with details will be emailed closer to the event.
  • Join the club at Pariah Brewing Company, 1700 Union Ave., Ste. D, after the project is completed.

Packing Meals at Feed My Starving Children

Join the Club of Minneapolis-St. Paul as they partner with Feed My Starving Children for this year’s Hoyas Give Baxa! Volunteers will hand-pack rice, soy, dried vegetables, and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags. The bags are then sealed, boxed, placed on pallets, and shipped to reach the neediest children around the world.

  • Space is limited to 15 participants, so please register early!
  • Age requirement: Ages 5 and older. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
  • What to wear: Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes. Due to FDA compliance for food manufacturing plants, NO jewelry may be worn in the packing room.
  • When you arrive: There is a lot for the facility and a marked volunteer entrance. Please go to this entrance and Hannah from the club will give more information.
  • After the project’s completion, join the club at Muddy Cow—Coon Rapids for family-friendly appetizers and drinks.

  • Important: There will be two project shifts in two DIFFERENT locations! As they are concurrent, volunteers only need to participate in one.
  • Age requirement: Ages 15 and above.
  • When you arrive: Meet in HFH ReStore parking lot (near store entrance) 10 minutes before 10 a.m. start time. Once you arrive, go to the cashier, mention you are a volunteer. A QR code will be provided for you to scan and check in/out. This is how your hours are tracked. If you don’t have a smart phone, please let us know ahead of time and something will be arranged.
  • What to wear: Please dress in work clothes and wear closed-toed shoes.
  • What to bring: Work gloves, water, and lunch. (Lunch will be 30 minutes to one hour before work resumes.)
  • Please note—Registration is required through a 3rd party system. An account will need to be created to register for the project and to sign a liability waiver.

The CDMX team will find 2-3 alumni who will develop a 3-8 minute story to share with each small group.

  • Age requirement: Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
  • What to wear: Comfortable clothes to practice yoga.
  • What to bring: A yoga mat. If you have an extra yoga mat to lend one of the young women, that would be welcome. We will provide mat cleaner and a towel to wipe it at the end.
  • When you arrive: There is street parking. Look for our sign-in table right inside the main gate of the building. We will start with some group icebreakers, then split into three smaller groups for the rest of the day.
