In fact\, we will sail in the narrow path of totality. The point of maximum eclipse is located just outside Breiðafjörður Bay\, between the tips of the Westfjords and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. \nWeather permitting\, enjoy this rare and unforgettable opportunity. Watch as the sky darkens as the moon completely covers the sun\, revealing the sun’s corona. \nHave lunch and dinner on board. \nDay 8 | August 13 ÍSAFJÖRÐUR | VIGUR ISLAND B | L | D \nSavor a delicious breakfast this morning. \nÍsafjörður and Ósvör Excursion. Get to know the astonishing and wonderfully dramatic Westfjords\, a wild\, rock-strewn landscape of soaring mountains\, winding roads and tiny villages. Encounter a past era at Ósvör\, a replica of a 19th-century fishing station. Learn about the history and traditional seafaring life at this shore-side settlement. Continue to friendly Bolungarvík\, perched on the edge of the region’s largest fjord\, and enjoy the sights of the village. Then\, see the Buna River and a waterfall in Tunguskogur. Upon returning to Ísafjörður\, view the colorful architecture of the town\, including the variety of 18th- century\, timber-framed houses. \nReturn to the ship for lunch and cruise to Vigur Island. \nVigur Island:  Join your guide for an informative stroll around the tiny\, spear-shaped island\, which serves as a sanctuary to abundant birdlife\, including eider ducks\, puffins\, Arctic terns\, black guillemots and other species. This beautiful landscape serves as a breeding ground for over 100\,000 Arctic puffins and 7\,000 breeding common eiders. The island inhabitants collect the soft down from eider duck nests to wash and use in bedding\, coats and cushions. The island is also home to seals and other wildlife. Enjoy a sense of timelessness while passing by relics\, such as Iceland’s only wooden windmill\, built in 1840\, and the boat “Vigur Breiður\,” which is still used for fishing and ferrying goods and sheep. Be immersed in awe-inspiring landscapes today while exploring the enigmatic Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Here\, exceptional geographical beauty exposes the mystical side of Iceland. Begin in lovely Grundarfjörður\, one of Iceland’s oldest settlements\, and gaze at the dramatic Kirkjufell Mountain\, Iceland’s most photographed mountain. Rising from the bay at the edge of Grundarfjörður\, the mountain was a filming location for the popular “Game of Thrones” series. Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall sits nearby. Travel on to Djúpalónssandur\, where scattered remains of a 1948 shipwreck lie along the black sand. The beach is also home to huge boulders that the Vikings used to test their strength in the days of the fishing stations. Continue to Malarrif to see the white\, 65-foot lighthouse before visiting the tiny fishing community of Arnarstapi\, filled with sea caves\, dramatic cliffs and thousands of nesting birds. While enjoying an invigorating walk\, you might notice the large statue of the giant Bárður Snæfellsás. \nMade from shale stones\, this half-man\, half-troll is a guardian spirit of the community. After breakfast on board the ship\, you will disembark for a walking tour. Delos is barely 1.3 square miles\, but it brims with ancient history and also played a role in Greek mythology\, including as the legendary birthplace of the twin gods\, Apollo and Artemis. Pilgrims have flocked here over the millennia to visit the Sanctuary of Apollo and other ancient sites documented in Greek mythology. By the fifth century B.C.\, Delos also was famous as a prosperous commercial hub. A visit to this sacred island is like walking back through antiquity. Embark on your own pilgrimage down the majestic Sacred Way\, a monumental roadway to the Temple of Apollo that is flanked by arcades and statues. See ruins of three temples dedicated to Apollo as you continue past the narrow Stoa of Antigonus\, which forms the northern boundary of the sanctuary\, to behold the famous Terrace of the Lions. From there\, we will head south on a route that will take you past the Sanctuary of Dionysus and\nthrough the Theatre Quarter to continue exploring Delos. \nReturn to the ship for lunch on board as we cruise a short distance to the island Mykonos\, famous for its whitewashed houses\, iconic windmills and cosmopolitan verve. Known as the “island of the winds\,” Mykonos is also part of the stunning Cyclades archipelago. Enjoy bucolic views of rural Turkish villages and a countryside dotted with fig trees on a scenic drive to Ephesus. A vast archaeological collection of Hellenistic\, Roman and Byzantine ruins\, the UNESCO World Heritage-designated city of Ephesus was founded around the fourth century B.C. by a general of Alexander the Great. Explore these ancient ruins on a walking tour that includes the beautifully reconstructed façade of the Library of Celsus and the finely preserved Great Theatre\, built during the Hellenistic Age to hold 24\,000 spectators and where Ephesians rioted against the preaching of St. Paul. From there you will visit Terrace Houses complex\, which was once home to the city’s most prominent residents. \nDepart the Ephesus archaeological site for a drive to Selcuk to visit the Ephesus Archaeological Museum\, which showcases artifacts that were retrieved from Ephesus during excavations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries — including the famous statue of Artemis. After the museum\, the group will proceed to the Nakkas Weaving Center for a traditional barbeque lunch made with ingredients grown in the weavers’ gardens. In Greek mythology\, the small island of Patmos existed under sea level and could only been seen when the moon shone above it. However\, it became more famous in the late first century as the place where an exiled St. John\, the theologian\, wrote both his gospel and the biblical Book of Revelation. A monastery was founded there in the 11th century and it remains a site of pilgrimage and Greek Orthodox study. Religious and secular buildings in its ancient Chora settlement have received UNESCO World Heritage designation. \nOur tour begins with a visit to the Monastery of St. John\, which has a library that houses the sixth century Codex Porphyrius manuscripts of the theologian’s gospels. Experience the wonder of this site before continuing to the Cave of the Apocalypse\, where he is said to have received the Book of Revelation through divine inspiration. The island of Rhodes has had many faces over the millennia\, from its fame in antiquity as the site of the Colossus of Rhodes statue — one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World — to the medieval old town of Rhodes built by the Knights of St. John. While the island attracts visitors today with its cosmopolitan energy and sandy beaches\, it’s also home to several well-preserved archaeological sites\, including an ancient acropolis at Lindos that once served as its capital. Our tour begins in the city of Rhodes\, a UNESCO World Heritage site\, with a stop at its ancient port where the mighty Colossus of Rhodes statue stood before it was destroyed by an earthquake in the third century B.C. Explore the medieval old town as it was built by the Order of St. John of Jerusalem\, which occupied Rhodes from the early 14th century through the 16th century. You will disembark after breakfast for a full day of exploring. A crescent-shaped island featuring 1\,000-foot-cliffs and a spectacular caldera\, Santorini was shaped by a volcanic explosion about 3\,600 years ago and has shifted over the centuries as the volcano erupted. In some ancient myths\, this destruction is associated with the legend of the lost city of Atlantis. With early inhabitants traced as far back as in the Neolithic era\, this island has a rich and storied past that extends from antiquity to its reputation today as a chic\, modern destination. \nEnjoy a scenic drive to the southern end of the island for a guided tour of the excavations of Akrotiri\, a unique archeological site that dates to prehistoric times. Excavations that began in 1967 reveal an amazing city with houses\, squares and workshops that were covered under a thick blanket of pumice during a massive eruption in the 17th century B.C. Further research shows that the island of Santorini was once the center of Greek civilization\, akin to the Minoans of Crete. In fact\, some refer to this site as a Minoan Pompeii. Though most of it was reassembled and presented to King Louis XVIII (who later donated it to the Louvre) the arms of the ancient female figure believed to represent Aphrodite were never found. Visit the Archaeological Museum of Milos\, which features exhibits that date from the Neolithic period through late antiquity. Located in a neoclassical building in the dramatically situated\, car-free village of Plaka\, the museum also has a modern replica of the original first century B.C. statue. The ruins of the current building are from the 11th century\, but the original monastery was built 300 years earlier. William the Conqueror was present for the consecration of the second monastery. We have free time to wander the colorful streets and visit the chic boutiques and galleries here before we return to our hotel at midday.\nMeals: Breakfast \nDAY 7: Santa Margherita/Cinque Terre/Portovenere\nWe depart this morning by train for the hour-long trip to the Cinque Terre (literally\, “Five Lands”)\, the five cliff-clinging villages seemingly carved from the mountains. Originally medieval fishing villages\, the Cinque Terre were inaccessible by land for centuries; even today\, no road connects all five. We stop in scenic Vernazza and then board a boat for a comfortable cruise along the rugged coastline to visit another village of the Cinque Terre. From here\, we cruise to the port town of Portovenere\, with its cluster of colorful column-shaped houses. After a brief walking tour of the Old Town\, we have time to explore and\nenjoy lunch on our own. We dine together tonight at our hotel.\nMeals: Breakfast\, Dinner \nDAY 8: Santa Margherita/Lucca/Radda-in-Chianti\nMoving on today\, we travel south to beloved Tuscany\, stopping first in the atmospheric medieval town of Lucca. We take a walking tour of this incredibly well-preserved gem whose city walls and ramparts remain intact and are a popular attraction. After time for lunch on our own\, we continue on to our lodgings.\nMeals: Breakfast\, Dinner \nDAY 9: Radda-in-Chianti/Florence\nWe spend today touring and exploring wondrous Florence\, a living monument to the Renaissance and the crown jewel of Tuscany. Our day includes a guided morning walking tour followed by free time. Together\, we visit the Galleria dell’Accademia to view Michelangelo’s sublime David and his pieces for the papal tombs\, and then we see the Duomo\, with its stupendous dome by Brunelleschi. Afterwards we’re free to stroll the 14th-century Ponte Vecchio and its many jewelry shops; visit renowned museums and churches; shop for leather goods and artful Florentine paper; and enjoy lunch on our own. We return to our hotel in the mid-afternoon and tonight we dine together at a local restaurant.\nMeals: Breakfast\, Dinner \nDAY 10: Radda-in-Chianti/Siena\nToday we visit the walled city of Siena\, whose historic center is a UNESCO site and whose ochre-colored buildings and ancient ramparts vividly evoke its medieval past. Fan-shaped Piazza del Campo is one of Europe’s greatest public squares; its Duomo\, with pillars of black and white marble\, is one of Italy’s finest\, housing masterpieces by Donatello and Michelangelo. Following a guided walking tour that includes an inside visit to the Duomo\, we have free time to explore on our own. We return to our hotel late this afternoon and have the remainder of the day at leisure.\nMeals: Breakfast \nDAY 11: Radda-in-Chianti/Verona/Bolzano\nAs we travel north today\, we stop in storied Verona\, renowned as the setting of several Shakespeare plays\, including\, of course\, Romeo and Juliet. A UNESCO site\, Verona boasts well-preserved monuments from antiquity\, including a 1st-century Roman amphitheater still in use today\, as we see on our guided walking tour. After time for lunch and to explore on our own here\, we continue our journey to the South Tyrol\, Italy’s German-accented northern reaches bordering Austria and Switzerland. We’re bound for the regional capital of Bolzano\, gateway to the Dolomites in the Italian Alps. Late this afternoon we reach our hotel\, where we dine together tonight.\nMeals: Breakfast\, Dinner \nDAY 12: Bolzano\nSet in a basin surrounded by rounded forest-green hills\, Bolzano boasts an enviable quality of life – and truly spectacular scenery. We take a cable car to a spot for views of the 18-peak Dolomites\, their vertical walls and sheer cliffs presenting a magnificent backdrop to the surrounding woodlands\, valleys\, and pastures. Then we walk through Bolzano’s colorful historic center and visit the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology\, well known for housing the mummified corpse of Ötzi the Iceman\, dating to 3300 BCE. You’ll arrive at the Trinity Run Lighthouse\, located near the Gulf of Cadiz\, and walk up a short\, steep section of road to reach the summit of the Rock of Gibraltar\, known as the “Top of the Rock.” From atop the towering limestone formation\, you’ll witness stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area and also see the two Pillars of Hercules\, two ancient landmarks that were once believed to mark the edge of the known world in classical antiquity. By the early 1500s\, the colonial-era Age of Exploration established Seville as the gateway to Spanish trade with the Americas. Seville Discovery. Begin with a visit the magnificent Cathedral of Seville. The largest Gothic building in the world\, the cathedral replaced a mosque that had been located at that site. During the Panama Canal expansion project\, which happened from 2007-2016\, the width and depth of the canal were increased\, and bends along the route were straightened. And two new sets of locks were added — one at each end of the canal — which boosted the waterway’s capacity to move cargo from one ocean to the other. These improvements doubled the capacity of the canal\, and allowed larger ships\, called Neopanamax\, to transit. Neopanamax are almost three times the size of the largest vessels that could cross the original locks\, and can carry up to 14\,000 containers. A ship of this size pays somewhere between $300\,000 and $1 million in toll fees to cross the Panama Canal.\n \nTraveler’s Choice | Choose one of the following included excursions:\n \nGatun River and Embera Village. Travel to the banks of the Gatun River\, where you’ll board a motorized piragua (dugout canoe) and travel downriver through the lush forest to the indigenous village of Embera Quera. The river is a birdwatcher’s paradise — keep your eyes peeled for little blue and green herons\, great egrets\, anhingas\, neotropical cormorants\, kingfishers\, toucans and ospreys. A UNESCO World Heritage site\, this Spanish colonial stronghold was built in 1601 to fortify and protect the river entrance to the Las Cruces Trail leading to Panama City. The area is a great place to spot wildlife\, including howler monkeys\, sloths\, coatis\, tamandua (a genus of anteaters) and a wide range of birds. See the Shelter Bay Marina\, located on the old site of Fort Sherman\, a former U.S. military base. It was built in 1910 to protect the Gatun Locks and Gatun Dam of the Panama Canal. Enjoy an included group lunch. Wrap up with a visit to the Agua Clara Locks. (Activity level: Moderate) \nGatun Lake expedition boat tour. Begin your excursion with visit to the Agua Clara Locks. Continue to the town of Gamboa\, where you will board an expedition boat. Cross Gatun Lake\, used by massive cargo ships preparing to transit the canal. When it was formed in 1914\, Gatun Lake was the largest man-made lake in the world. The flow of all the rivers within the Panama Canal’s watershed is contained in Gatun Lake to provide water for the operation of the locks system. More than 52 million gallons of fresh water are used for every ship that transits through the Panama Canal. On average\, 32 ships cross the canal every day! Although it is part of an engineering marvel\, the lake is also part of a rich ecosystem. As you cruise\, various monkeys and three-toed sloths in the tree branches\, crocodiles on the banks\, and ospreys and keel-billed toucans in the air. A total of 40 miles long\, this waterway connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans was first constructed in the early 1900s. The Panama Canal was first built and solely controlled by the United States in 1914\, with joint agency between the U.S. and the Republic of Panama going into effect in 1979 and complete control being passed to Panama in late 1999. As we voyage through the canal from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean\, watch as the mighty locks open and close\, ultimately raising and lowering the ship 85 feet in this unique and memorable experience.\n \nEnjoy a delicious lunch and plenty of time to relax onboard the ship.\n \nDay 5 | Wednesday\, January 20 – DAY AT SEA B | L | D  \nSpend the day taking your ease and gazing at the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy lectures\, the ship’s amenities — and three delicious meals — on board today.\n \nDay 6 | Thursday\, January 21 – ISLA PARIDA B | L | D\n \nFree time: Morning at leisure on the ship.\n \nFor today’s excursions\, the trip from the ship to the shore will involve a wet landing. WindStar utilizes Zodiacs\, rugged inflatable boats designed to take guests safely to remote ports with no docks. A wet landing involves boarding a Zodiac from a floating dock on the yacht and riding it from the ship to the shore. Once you reach the beach\, you will disembark directly into the water\, which will be ankle- or kneedeep. To prepare for the wet landing\, make sure you bring water shoes to help you walk in the water and sand. Some landing sites may have rocky bottoms. You will most likely get wet\, so be conscientious of your attire. You may also want to bring a Ziploc or watertight plastic bag for your phone and camera to keep them dry. After disembarking\, your adventures await on shore! \nIsla Parida. Today we will go ashore in Isla Parida\, which is part of an archipelago. Parida is Spanish for “calving\,” so named because humpback whales come here to give birth and nurse their young in the protected waters. The islands themselves boast beautiful butterflies and birds and several species of monkeys. Upon landing\, we will enjoy a BBQ beach party and lunch. Kayaks and snorkeling gear will be available to use and you may choose to spend the day on the beach. Or you can choose from one of the following excursions.\n \nTraveler’s Choice | Choose one of the following included excursions.  \nHiking on Parida Island (Activity level: Active).\nHead off the beaten path to explore the wondrous ecology of the island\, from beautiful flowers and lush rainforest vegetation to iguanas and rare birds. Not for beginner snorkelers.)\nIsla Parida is surrounded by the Chiriqui National Marine Park — with its dozens of untouched islands. Set sail into open waters on an island-hopping adventure. There are soaring palm trees\, white-sand beaches\, coral reefs and gentle waters perfect for snorkeling. \nDuration: 3 hours\nDetails: Snorkeling equipment will be provided. The boats used are modest panga boats\, and guests will need to be able to climb hanging ladders to get in and out of the vessel. The ladders are short and can be challenging to climb. At times\, visibility and snorkeling conditions may not be ideal. If conditions are too poor\, your captain may decide to search for wildlife such as turtles\, dolphins and whales instead. Your panga captain will speak Spanish\, but you will have an English-speaking guide. A waiver must be signed prior to the tour. \nTo wear/bring: Wear light clothing and comfortable shoes\, and wear your bathing suit under your clothes. Bring a towel\, insect repellent\, sunscreen\, a hat\, sunglasses\, and a camera. \nAfter your afternoon on Isla Parida\, return to the ship and enjoy a relaxing dinner on board.\n \nDay 7 | Friday\, January 22 – PUERTO JIMENEZ\, COSTA RICA | OSA PENINSULA B | L | D\nSloth Visiting Center. Meet sloths in their natural habitat\, in a preserve established and maintained by a local family. On the Osa Peninsula\, there is incredible biodiversity\, including two native species of sloths: the two-toed and the three-toed. Keep your eyes peeled for a variety of birds and other wildlife as well! (Activity level: Mild) \nReturn to the ship and tuck in to a tasty lunch. Then head back out for more excitement. \nOrganic farm with tastings. Explore an organic farm filled with vanilla\, pineapple\, banana and cacao crops. Then learn the history of chocolate production (by the ancient Mayans!)\, see the steps of modern chocolate making\, and taste the delicious results. Sample farm-grown fruit for the ultimate fresh food experience! WindStar utilizes Zodiacs\, rugged inflatable boats designed to take guests safely to remote ports with no docks. A wet landing involves boarding a Zodiac from a floating dock on the yacht and riding it from the ship to the shore. Once you reach the beach\, you will disembark directly into the water\, which will be ankle- or knee-deep. \nTo prepare for the wet landing\, be sure to bring water shoes to help you walk on the water and sand. Some landing sites may have rocky bottoms. You will most likely get wet\, so be conscientious of your attire. B\,L\,D \nDay 4: Rabat/Meknes/Volubilis/Fez \nThis ­morning we depart Rabat for Fez\, stopping along the way in Meknes\, Morocco’s youngest imperial city (and UNESCO World Heritage site). We visit the Bab el Mansour gateway and the ruins of the imper­ial stables before lunch in a local restaurant. Then we continue on to the ancient Roman ruins at the UNESCO site of Volubilis\, known for its intricate and colorful mosaics. Late afternoon we reach Fez and our elegant hotel overlooking the medina\, another UNESCO World Heritage site. B\,L\,D \nDay 5: Fez \nToday we explore Morocco’s oldest imperial city\, considered the “Athens of Africa” for its wealth of cultural\, educational\, and religious institutions. We begin with a comfortable walk through the Fez medina\, where we see some hidden treasures\, including the Blue Gate\, the most picturesque of the Old City’s historic gates; the medieval school of Bouanania; the 12th-century home of Jewish scholar Maimonides; and the authentic food market. We also visit the traditional quarter where we watch artisans craft the acclaimed Fez pottery and ceramics. After lunch together in the medina\, we tour the old Mellah (Jewish quarter) and its 17th-century synagogue and the royal gates. B\,L\,D \nDay 6: Fez \nToday’s touring features the Museum of Fez\, housing traditional arts. Then we embark on a walking tour of the medina focusing on the artisans’ quarters\, the 14th-century Koranic schools\, and Al Karaouine\, the medieval theological university. The remainder of the afternoon is free for independent exploration and lunch on our own. Tonight\, we enjoy a private dinner at an intimate family-run riad in Fez. B\,D \nDay 7: Fez/Midelt/Erfoud \nTraveling inland today\, we cross the fertile plains beyond Fez and continue through the Middle Atlas mountain range. We stop in the small town of Midelt for lunch. Continuing on we cross the Ziz River\, passing rows of sky-scraping palm trees and fortified villages before reaching our kasbah-style hotel in Erfoud late in the day. Dinner tonight is at our hotel. B\,L\,D \nDay 8: Erfoud/Rissani/Merzouga \nThis morning we visit the city of Rissani\, with its 18th-century ksar\, a virtually impenetrable warren of alleys. We enjoy a tour highlight this afternoon as we set out on a sunset excursion to the breathtakingly beautiful sand dunes at Merzouga on the edge of the Sahara. In the enormous silence we watch the sun set over the desert as we take a camel ride along the erg. Following this experience\, we’ll have dinner together in this desert setting before returning to our hotel tonight. B\,L\,D \nDay 9: Erfoud/Tinehir/Todra Gorge/Ouarzazate \nOur destination today is in the snow-topped High Atlas. The day features one beautiful scene after another\, including the village of Tinehir\, a stunning mountain oasis rising on a series of riverside terraces lush with palm trees; and the spectacular 984-foot Todra Gorge\, home to a variety of rare bird and plant species. Following lunch here we visit El Kelaa des Mgouna\, known for its roses\, then set out on the fabled “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs” ancient caravan route\, a region of fortresses with elaborately decorated façades. Late afternoon we reach the town of Ouarzazate (the “door of the desert”) where we spend the night. B\,L\,D \nDay 10: Ouarzazate/Ait ben-Haddou/Marrakech \nEn route to Marrakech today\, we stop first at uninhab­ited Ait ben-Haddou\, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of southern Morocco’s most scenic villages that is often used as a location for fashion and film shoots. Its old section consists of deep red kasbahs packed together so tightly they appear to be a single unit. Then as we begin our descent from the High Atlas\, we pass through typical villages with fortified walls and stone houses with earthen roofs. In Tizi N’Tichka\, we traverse the Pass of the Pastures (alt. 7\,415 feet)\, where life is much as it was centuries ago: shepherds bring their flocks to the high pastures every summer\, then return with them to their villages in autumn. We arrive in Marrakech late this afternoon and dine tonight at our hotel. B\,L\,D \nDay 11: Marrakech \nOnce the capital of southern Morocco\, the imperial city of Marrakech is an allur­ing oasis with a temperate climate\, distinct charm\, and fascinating sights. Our day-long tour includes the beautifully proportioned Koutoubia Mosque with its distinctive 282-foot minaret visible from miles away; the lovely Andalusian-style El Bahia Palace (part of which is still used by the royal family); and the ruins of 16th-century Palais El Badii. After lunch at our hotel\, mid-afternoon we embark on a walk­ing tour of the medina\, ending at Djemaa el Fna Squ­are\, a UNESCO site and the heart of Marrakech\, crowded with snake charm­ers\, ­entertainers\, story­tellers\, musicians\, barbers\, and sellers of fruit\, water\, and spices. Dinner tonight is on our own in this exotic city. B\,L \nDay 12: Marrakech \nThis morning we travel by horse-drawn carriage from Menara Park to Majorelle Gardens\, a private botanical garden with some 15 species of birds native to North Africa and known for its cobalt blue accents. Following a tour of the gardens we visit the Yves St. Laurent Museum\, housing a vast collection of the designer’s haute couture and design works. The afternoon is at leisure before dinner tonight at a local restaurant in the city’s Old Town. B\,D \nDay 13: Marrakech/Casablanca \nWe leave Marra­kech this morning by coach for storied Casablanca\, Morocco’s largest and most cosmopolitan city. After a brief orientation tour of the city\, we visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque\, Morocco’s only functioning mosque open to non-Muslims. You’ll arrive at the Trinity Run Lighthouse\, located near the Gulf of Cadiz\, and walk up a short\, steep section of road to reach the summit of the Rock of Gibraltar\, known as the “Top of the Rock.” From atop the towering limestone formation\, you’ll witness stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area and also see the two Pillars of Hercules\, two ancient landmarks that were once believed to mark the edge of the known world in classical antiquity. Observe the playful\, curious creatures who roam freely around the Rock of Gibraltar and are Europe’s only wild monkeys. \nConclude your enriching day with a visit to the Siege Tunnels\, which were carved into the Rock during the Great Siege of Gibraltar (1779-1783) to house artillery and protect the garrison from attacks. Andalusia is the birthplace of flamenco\, and Seville’s atmospheric neighborhoods\, like Triana and Santa Cruz\, echo with the passionate rhythms of guitar and dance. The enormous Gothic cathedral was built on the site of a former Moorish mosque; its construction began in 1401 and took over a century to complete. It is home to Christopher Columbus’ tomb and famous for the Giralda\, a former minaret converted into the cathedral’s bell tower. The cathedral’s blend of Moorish\, Gothic\, Renaissance and baroque influences reflects Seville’s diverse history and cultural heritage. Once a significant ancient maritime port and the capital of Algarve from 1577 to 1756\, Logos’ origins date back to at least 2000 B.C.\, with early settlements by the Phoenicians\, Carthaginians and Romans before it became an important Moorish town in the 8th century and was later reconquered by the Portuguese in 1249. During the Age of Discovery in the 15th and 16th centuries\, Logos served as a key departure point for explorers\, including Prince Henry the Navigator’s expeditions along the West African coast.
