The 2016 Georgetown Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service takes place on Saturday, January 23. This day of service and togetherness will unite the Georgetown community, the Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy, and the District of Columbia Ward 7 community through celebration, service, and reflection. Informed by the Jesuit values of contemplation in action, cura personalis, and women and men for others, this service day aims to raise awareness of, inspire passion for, and foster sustained commitment to social justice work as expressed by the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The MLK Day of Service is open to all Georgetown students (undergraduate and graduate), staff, faculty, and alumni. Families are welcome as well! Service with these partners can vary including cleaning and painting, outdoor beautification projects (depending on the weather), sandwich making for D.C. Central Kitchen, or assembling hypothermia outreach kits.
This special day of service is part of a full week of events January 17-23, including the Dr. Martin Luther King and Civil Rights Movement book display at the University Bookstore, a film screening at Healey Family Student Center Social Room, workshops, panel discussions and more. Join the discussion on #WhyGUCantWait to reflect with fellow Hoyas on sustaining Dr. King's legacy at Georgetown today.
