Events and Activities

While club members have been busy recently with helping to organize events and activities for John Carroll Weekend, they still make sure to find time for social gatherings. Ortbals-Tibbs says the DC Club has several well-attended event series, including: wine tastings, faculty lectures, alumni Masses and community service projects. One of its most successful new events is a cooking class held at the restaurant of alumnus “Chef Geoff” Tracy (C’95).

Community Service Award

At Winter Leadership Weekend 2009, the DC Club received the Community Service Award from the alumni association. While they host a few large-scale projects each year, they emphasize smaller, more regular projects, including both weekly and monthly commitments at three local community outreach programs for the homeless. According to Ortbals-Tibbs, the increased number, diversity and regularity of club community service opportunities have garnered new interest from alumni of all ages and opened the doors for more families to participate as they harness the spirit of the Jesuit motto “men and women for others.”
