T.J. Connolly (B'06)

Vice President, Sales and Hospital Relationships, Care+Wear

What has been the most rewarding moment of your career?

Helping younger people navigate through their careers has been incredibly fulfilling. I am always happy to speak with anyone who is looking for advice, expanding their networks, and seeking guidance in their next steps.

What do you wish you had done earlier in your career?

I spent five years working in banking before I realized I wanted something more entrepreneurial. Part of me wishes that I had made the leap out of finance and into start-ups before then, but everything in life happens for a reason!

What trends do you see in your profession or industry?

I have always valued relationships over anything else; I think that many folks who are in "sales" have a very narrow focus—profits. The profits will come if you focus on building real relationships and treat your clients as true partners.

How has Georgetown shaped you?

Georgetown provided me with a chance to connect with some of the smartest and most driven people I know.

Favorite professor or class at Georgetown:

Tie between Otto Hentz and Ilka Ronkainen

Who has inspired you in your life and why?

My parents are the ultimate inspiration: two incredibly hard-working, family-oriented people who provide me with personal and professional inspiration just by being themselves!

What is one part of your daily routine you couldn't live without?

I can't start my work day without getting a good sweat in. It gives me a much-needed energy boost to get to the office ready to work.

What's on your desk right now?

Business cards, an old-school orange handheld phone that I can plug into my cellphone, headphones, and Advil (hangovers happen occasionally from all the networking).

Who is your favorite author?

Haruki Murakami

What is the best career advice you have received?

Never make a career decision based on money.

What is your favorite Georgetown memory?

Visiting Georgetown when I was a kid with my brother and sisters for my Dad's reunion weekend. Now we get to attend together!

Who or what inspires you?

I'm currently inspired by the people around me, working to build amazing products that are helping people going through medical treatments around the world. The mission at Care+Wear is something that resonates with me on a daily basis, and I'm thankful to be part of a company that is helping people when they need it most.

What is the hardest thing you have ever done professionally?

I think that finding what really drives you is something with which most people struggle. It took me some time to find the type of company and role I needed to feel totally satisfied with my career path and trajectory.

Words to live by:

Money comes and goes—memories last a lifetime.
